THE funeral of a rugby-loving teenager who died in a suspected hit and run collision on the Powys-Shropshire border last month is to take place this weekend.

Dylan Price died on Sunday, September 19, a day before his 18th birthday. Dylan was found in Brampton Road between Lydbury North and Bishop's Castle just after 2am. Police officers believe he had been hit by a vehicle while he was walking along the road, which led to him suffering fatal injuries.

The popular 17-year-old played rugby for Bishop’s Castle, with the club announcing that his funeral will take place this Saturday, October 9, from 12 noon at St John the Baptist Church in Bishop’s Castle.

Bishops Castle RUFC announced that a celebration of Dylan’s life will then be held at Bishop’s Castle Rugby Club from 2pm following the funeral service.

The club posted on its Facebook page on Sunday [October 3]: “All flowers to be delivered to the rugby club from 9am.

“Donations received will be given to the Young MINDs charity and Bishop’s Castle Community College Pastoral care.

“Dress: Dylan was passionate about his rugby so we are happy for a show of red. The funeral cortege will start from outside the Kings Head at 11.45am.

“Anyone wishing to be seated in the church will need to arrive there and be seated early. The service will also be broadcast from outside the church. Parking is available at the community college, Bishop’s Castle, and the field opposite the rugby club.”

The club paid a touching tribute to Dylan in the wake of his death, describing him as a committed member of the club who had a “smile everyone loved to see”.

“Words cannot describe the feelings the boys are going through at the club right now,” the club said in a statement.

“Dylan Price was not only a club member or team mate he was a friend, a brother and always a smile everyone loved to see around the changing room.

“He always gave his everything in to all he did, not just on the rugby pitch. Dylan will forever be a part of Bishops Castle Rugby Club and will never be forgotten.

“Our thoughts and love go out to the family in this tough time.”

Dylan had been in the Bishop’s Castle team that played Knighton rivals Tref-y-Clawdd in a pre-season friendly the day before his death, Saturday, September 18.

The Powys club paid their own tributes to the much-loved teen, who was known to and friends with several Knighton players. Nine of them attended a pre-planned birthday party held in Dylan’s honour in Bishop’s Castle on Monday night, September 20, which his family decided to go ahead with so people could pay tribute to him.

Tref-y-Clawdd also derived their own plan to remember Dylan, organising a combined raffle and auction which was drawn at their home game with Crickhowell on Saturday [October 2], with proceeds to be added to a fundraising page set up to support Dylan’s family.
