The Montgomeryshire branch of the Farmers’ Union of Wales has elected three new county officials at its recent county executive meeting.

Darowen farmer Iwan Pughe Jones is the new county chairman and he will be joined by newly-elected president Lynda Brown, of Neuadd Fach, Llandinam and vice chairman Wyn Williams, of Penllwyn, Llanfair Caereinion.

“I would like to thank the outgoing officials for all of their hard work and dedication to the Union and our farming industry," Mr Pughe Jones said.

"These are challenging times and I'm honoured to have been elected to lead the county of Montgomeryshire as its chairman."

Mr Pughe Jones takes over the reign as county chairman from Bryn Francis. FUW Montgomeryshire thanked the Llanfair Caereinion farmer for his "dedication to the Union and the farming industry" over the past three years.

Additionally the branch thanked outgoing County President Gareth Vaughan for his service.

FUW Montgomeryshire County Executive officer Emyr Wyn Davies added: “The county of Montgomeryshire has seen some strong leadership from our former elected officials, who have been fierce advocates of our industry.

"I now look forward to working with the newly elected officials to ensure that we have strong, sustainable family farms here in the county and across Wales.”
