A Shropshire brewery says an expansion into online sales has helped it survive the pandemic.

The Three Tuns Brewery, based in Bishop’s Castle, is the oldest working brewery in Britain and received its first brewing licence in 1642.

But now the traditional brewing company has been catapulted into the digital age after launching an online sales operation to replace lost income during lockdown, when they were unable to sell barrels to pubs.

Previously, the brewery sold its cask barrels direct to pubs but launched an online shop in December.

Kieran Jones, operations director, said he had to watch the business' income levels flat line as the pubs were forced to close.

"With Covid, our income went to nothing," he said.

"It all came to a dramatic halt... Our online shop has helped us get up and going again."

Now in a period of expansion, the business has rented offices in nearby Enterprise House and has paid tribute to their landlords for helping them through a difficult period.

The Three Tuns Brewery moved its offices to Enterprise House about four years ago and has gradually expanded as additional space has become available.

"Enterprise South West Shropshire helped us with rent payments and were really helpful landlords," he added.

"We have our offices at Enterprise House, from where we have five members of staff operating. We also have storage for our cask barrels that we deliver to pubs and our online packing area.

"ESWS has been fantastic with our needs as a business. We are growing and they have helped us scale up with extra space. We also use them for printing and we use their meetings rooms regularly."
