Nearly 100 sheep have been stolen from land near Shelve, police have said.

Latest crime stats covering the Bishops Castle SNT area revealed the theft of roughly 70 Cheviot Lambs and 20 Cheviot Ewes, with ear tag number UK305057, from land near to Hope Valley and Shelve.

The theft was discovered when the flock was counted earlier in September.

The theft was revealed as part of the crime report delivered by the Bishop's Castle Safer Neighbourhoods policing team, which delivers a monthly update of noteworthy incidents in the area. 

Other items noted in the period between August 14 and September 15 was an incident of livestock worrying which took place on Saturday, August 28.

Police say that some time during the morning, 5 ewes were found with bite wounds on Land near Rhadley Hill, Nind.

Further to the update, Police have also confirmed that a new PCSO will be starting work in the Bishop's Castle area.

At the end of October, the team will welcome a new PCSO, Nicole Jones, who is currently training at HQ before coming on to patch.

Nicole replaces PCSO Calvin Brown who left the area in February 2020. Nicole was due to start training nearly 18 months just as we went into the first lockdown and her training has been on hold until September this year, police say.
