A north Powys council is hoping for a clean sweep on the town's streets and pathways - after appointing a new street cleaner and maintenance worker.

The new man in charge of making sure Llanfyllin is looking spic-and-span is Tom Edwards, who takes over the role following the departure of previous incumbent Jay Bailey in May.

A spokesperson for Llanfyllin Town Council asked the public to let them know if there are any areas that need tidying up, but have warned there may be a waiting list while work is caught up.

"Llanfyllin Town Councils latest employee is Tom Edwards, who moved locally a couple of years ago with his family," they said.

"Tom has taken up the role of street cleaner and general maintenance worker. He'll be continuing the great work Jay started making sure Llanfyllin is a well maintained clean town.

"Please let us know of areas in need - but please remember Tom only works for us a few hours a week so there may be a wait list."

Mr Edwards takes on the role from former post holder Jay Bailey, who left earlier this year following a five year stint.

Mr Bailey was presented with a leaving gift from Llanfyllin Town Council by councillor Jane Carrington earlier this year.

"Jay has performed the most amazing job of keeping our town clean and tidy and as free as humanly possible of dog poo for the past approximately 5 years. He’s also kept our toilets clean for a few years," said a spokesperson.

"On behalf of Llanfyllin town – we would like to thank Jay for all his hard work these past years not only cleaning our streets but also being a real community figure going that extra mile to help out with the market, Christmas market and all other community events in town."
