Flint Town United 4 Newtown 1

NEWTOWN crashed to only their second defeat of the season as surprise leaders Flint Town United underlined their credentials at Cae-Y-Castell.

The Deesiders never looked back after Callum Bratley's fifth minute opener, slotting home after Mike Wilde's effort from Alex Jones' cross was blocked in the Newtown goalmouth.

Newtown continued to struggle to cope with the pace of Jones who delivered another right wing cross for Jack Kenny to double the lead 10 minutes later.

The Robins were left with a mountain to climb when Wilde added a third after half an hour with Newtown punished for failing to deal with Sam Hart's corner as the ex-TNS striker netted at the second attempt.

It could have got even worse by the break when Kenny went down in the area under pressure with Wilde's penalty striking the woodwork.

Newtown were back in the game early in the second-half with Lufumpa Mwandwe drilling home from the edge of the area.

Flint were reduced to 10 men on the hour when Wilde, the JD Cymru player of the month, saw red following a second caution.

Mwandwe fired inches over as Newtown pressed for a route back into the game before tensions boiled over with visiting defender Naim Arsan and Flint manager Neil Gibson booked following a touchline altercation.

It was all over with 12 minutes remaining with Ben Maher bursting through from his own half to lob Newtown goalkeeper Dave Jones to complete a miserable day in Deeside for the Robins.
