A NEW era in the history of women's football in Wales began this weekend.

TNS lined up in the new Genero Adran Premier while Llanfair United took their place in Adran North and Welshpool Town made their senior league debut in the North Wales Women's League.

However each mid Wales side came up short on a disappointing opening weekend.

TNS went down 2-1 at home to fellow newcomers Pontypridd Town who led through Alison Witts before the Saints levelled through Francesca Scott.

However Witts completed her double before the break as the south Walians held firm for three points at Park Hall.

Elsewhere Newtown-based Libby Isaac struck a 30 yard screamer as Aberystwyth Town opened their season with a 3-1 win at home to Barry Town United.

Amy Jenkins and Elin Jones goals completed their tally while Taite Trivett reduced the arrears.

Meanwhile a Gemma Jones strike proved consolation as Llanfair United crashed to a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Llandudno.

Ffion Owen fired the Seasiders ahead before Jones levelled for the hosts but goals from Ella Jones and a Rebecca Jarvis-Evans double won the day for the visitors.

Elsewhere a Sara Furlong double did the damage as Welshpool Town slipped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Amlwch Town in the North Wales Women's League.
