Children in Trefeglwys have been busy creating a large mosaic which will soon be on display.

Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon said pupils were "very proud" of their work which shows a Welsh dragon sleeping under an oak tree.

The project was part of a competition held by the British Ironwork Centre based in Oswestry.

The school has thanked people for donating stone, gravel and pebbles to the school.

A spokesperson for Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon said: "The children at Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon are very proud of their entry for the mosaic competition.

"Completed before the summer holidays, every child in school has helped complete a section of the mosaic. The design was a joint effort between pupils sharing ideas for their thoughts on the ethos and vision of our school and the final design was drawn by a Blwyddyn 5 pupil.

"Many of our pupils begin their school journey in our pre-school Mes Bach (little acorns in Welsh) and there are oak trees growing on both the old school site in the village and the current site. The oak tree represents the saying 'from little acorns mighty oak trees grow' and portrays their journey through school.

"The school logo Celtic knot is present on each side, which was an incredible feat in stone, and the children were keen for it to be exciting and different and wanted Wales represented so they chose the Welsh dragon who is sleeping under the tree.

"We are very grateful for all the donations of stone/gravel/pebbles that came in to school and was often carefully selected by the children with the design in mind.

"Many thanks to all involved, we just need to decide where to put it!"
