Two West Midlands men who admitted bringing a large quantity of cannabis to sell in Newtown will be sentenced at Mold later this month.

Kane Carlin, of Birmingham, and Ryan Hudson, aged 21 and from Tamworth, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday, September 2 having pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

At an earlier hearing at Welshpool Magistrates Court in August the court was told how on March 29, 2020 a vehicle with the two men had been stopped by police on Pool Road, Newtown where they were said to have been in possession of a bag containing 380.92gms of cannabis, a controlled drug of class B.

The two men were due to be sentenced in today's hearing at Mold however a mix-up with pre-sentencing reports meant that the required information was not available to the court to proceed.

Carlin, aged 31, had been convicted and sentenced on a separate driving offence earlier this year where he was given a suspended sentence.

He subsequently breached his licence and was sent to prison to serve his sentence, and was released in April.

That offence took place in September 2020, six months after his arrest for the drugs offence, but had only come to court in August of this year.

Addressing the two men in the dock at Mold Crown Court today, His Honour Judge Rowlands told them they would have to return to court later this month to hear their sentence once the pre-sentencing reports had been compiled.

He also demanded a "full explanation for why it took the Crown Prosecution Service 15 months to decide to prosecute what should have been a very straightforward case".

The two men will return to Mold Crown Court on Thursday, September 30 for sentence.
