Fire crews from Presteigne were called to a cross border field-fire along with crews from several other border stations last night (July 26).

Around 3 hectares of stubble caught light during warm weather at Lyonshall, Herefordshire on the A44 near New Radnor, Hereford Fire and Rescue say.

Teams from Kingsland, Kington, Peterchurch and Leintwardine were also called out to the incident.

"Last night our water carrier and 522, attended a field fire of approx. 3ha of stubble, nr Lyonshall," said Leominster Fire Station via social media.

"Crews worked hard to stop the fire spreading and to extinguish," they added.

Meanwhile crews from Kington said it was "hard to believe" they were dealing with such dry and hot conditions while elsewhere on the border crews were dealing with flash floods as storms moved overhead.

"We've just got home after a long evening fighting a field fire with around 3 hectares of stubble plus bales on fire along with a huge pile of timber and tree stumps," said a spokesperson.

"At the peak we had 6 fire engines from across Herefordshire plus one from mid and west Wales. Hard work in hot conditions, thanks to everyone for their hard work."
