A Newtown man who assaulted an emergency worker who had been called out to a row over his snoring will be sentenced next month.

David Giles Bradford, of New Road, Newtown pleaded guilty to a charge of assault by beating of an emergency worker, and a further charge of assault by beating.

The court was told that on March 28 police were called to a domestic dispute at the home of the defendant.

Prosecuting, Ms Helen Tench said the victim had said the defendant had been "drinking heavily" on the night and a row over the defendant's snoring had escalated into an assault on the victim.

The victim received a 1cm cut to the back of the head, after which police and ambulance attended the scene and the defendant was arrested.

The defendant then pushed a female police officer in the back, shouting "come on, lets go, come on". No injuries were caused to the officer.

The victim was checked by ambulance staff who told her she should be checked for blunt force trauma, but she did not receive any further treatment.

During interview, the defendant, a lorry driver who works in Welshpool, stated he "could not remember any of the incident".

Defending, Robert Hanratty said in mitigation that the couple had gone to bed in "good spirits" and said his client had no recollection of anything that had happened.

He said the incident was completely out of character for his client, who he said was described by those who knew him as a "very pleasant individual."

The case was adjourned until Tuesday, August 10 to allow probation reports to be completed, at which point Bradford will be sentenced.
