POLICE are investigating the death of a Newtown man following a “medical emergency” that occurred last Friday, July 16.

Dyfed Powys Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service were both on the scene, with the man’s death occurring in the Back Lane area of Newtown at around 7pm last Friday night.

“Police were called on Friday evening, July 16th 2021, to a report of the sudden death of a man in Newtown,” Dyfed Powys Police said in a statement.

“Next of kin have been advised. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called at 7pm on Friday 16 July to reports of a medical emergency in the Back Lane area of Newtown.

“We sent a rapid response vehicle and an emergency ambulance to the scene where we were assisted by colleagues in the police. No further information is available.”

Witnesses reported an emergency services presence at the scene, by the old Radio Maldwyn building, including two police cars, an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.

Police cordoned off the Riverside path between Latham Park and Back Lane Car Park.
