RADNOR Valley held their nerve to overcome local rivals Presteigne on penalties in the first round of the FAW Trophy on Friday night. 

New signing Jake Bufton handed the Goats a 13th minute lead when he guided the ball past the home custodian before Rees Morris doubled the advantage four minutes later when he converted a low cross.

Matt Strangwood fired home a 70th minute free-kick past Will Fowden in the Goats' goal before Sam Davies converted a cross from the left to level the scores 10 minutes later.

The tie went straight to a penalty shoot-out and it appeared at one stage that the two teams could not be separated until Rees Morris converted the winning spot-kick to hand the Goats victory 13-12 on penalties.

Meanwhile Berriew made light work of Waterloo Rovers in baking conditions at Talbot Field to seal a place in the second round of the FAW Trophy.

Joe Haycock gave the Rhiewsiders a 20th minute lead and Berriew doubled their advantage with a penalty from Jack Williams at the start of the second-half.

Further goals from Richard Davies and Drew Cook settled a 4-0 win for the home side.

Dolgellau hosted Machynlleth for the second consecutive week but the Maglonians celebrated a penalty shoot-out win on this occasion.

David Edwards broke the deadlock for the home side on the stroke of half-time but Machynlleth hit back after the break with Jac Petrie netting twice.

Dafydd Jones soon restored parity for the hosts and the game was settled from the spot with goalkeeper Huw Taylor proving the hero as Machynlleth prevailed 4-3 on penalties.

Llandrindod Wells overcame Knighton Town 2-0 to seal their trophy progress with a Jack Evans penalty on the stroke of half-time and a second-half strike from Kieran McCarley doing the damage.

McCarley later saw red for the hosts who saw out the tie with 10 men.

Llansantffraid celebrate a 2-1 derby win at home Llanymynech with Nathan Prodger and Nathan Buckley on target for the Saints before Andrew Biggs reduced the arrears.

Elsewhere a solitary strike from Tom Allen earned Tywyn Bryncrug a 1-0 win at Penparcau while Four Crosses overcame Kerry 3-2 on penalties after being locked 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Rhayader Town booked their place in the second round with a comfortable 4-1 win at home to Carno.

Jack Orbell gave Carno a 15th minute lead but Rhayader hit back through Jamie Evans and led through Tom Rowlands with 12 minutes remaining.

Rowlands completed his hat-trick with a late double as the Red Kites celebrated their first win of the season.

Meanwhile Montgomery Town's home derby with Welshpool Town along with Bow Street's home tie with Borth United, Tregaron Turfs' clash with Barmouth and Hay St Marys' home tie with Caersws were cancelled.
