Llanrhaeadr 1 Penrhyncoch 4

PENRHYNCOCH proved a cut above with victory at Llanrhaeadr in the first round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Nick Jones produced a brave save at the feet of Taylor Watts as Penrhyncoch began brightly.

The Roosters broke the deadlock after a tight opening with summer signing Geoff Kellaway steering home Josh Shaw's low cross to open his account after 30 minutes.

A frantic end to the first-half saw Penrhyn double their lead 10 minutes later with Shaw on hand after Jones could only parry Kellaway's shot.

Liam Sklenar reduced the arrears for the hosts on the stroke of half-time to ensure the home side remained in the hunt.

However Penrhyncoch restored their two goal cushion midway through the second-half with Steff Gittins releasing Ifan Burrell to net.

Shaw blasted home a free-kick with four minutes remaining to complete his double and seal Penrhyncoch's place in the second round.
