Airbus UK Broughton 1 Guilsfield 1

(Airbus won 6-5 on penalties)

GUILSFIELD pushed Airbus UK Broughton to the limit before succumbing to a 6-5 penalty shoot-out defeat in the first round of Nathaniel MG Cup.

Both sides unveiled a raft of new players since their last competitive outing 16 months ago.

George Peers and Ryan Edwards blazed over in the best of the opening exchanges as Airbus began brightly.

Meanwhile former Guils player Adam Davies fired wide on 35 minutes before the pressure finally told as Steve Tomassen headed home Joe Palmer's free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

Guilsfield were on top from the opening of the second-half with Greg Draper firing wide and Jamie Hyne twice forcing goalkeeper Rhys Williams into action.

Guils goalkeeper Mike Jones was also called upon to deny Nathan Brown as the hosts looked to put the tie to bed.

Moments before full-time the Guils snatched an equaliser as Adam Jenkins lashed home to take the tie to penalties.

Guilsfield looked on course when they opened a two goal advantage from the spot only for Williams to emerge the hero with three penalty saves to take the game to sudden death when Edwards kept his nerve to convert the winning spot kick.
