A Newtown boy made a farewell gift to his primary school of an oak sapling that he had been growing since he was three years old.
Eleven-year-old Alex Flatley planted the acorn at home seven years ago and it has now grown into a young oak tree.
During his final week at school, the Year Six pupil replanted the tree in the grounds of Penygloddfa Primary School with the help of caretaker Bob Jones.
Alex said: "I planted it as an acorn when I was three years old. and I have been going to my nan's house to look after it ever since. It needed to be planted [in the ground] so I brought it to school.
"It is my leaving present to Penygloddfa School. I feel like my tree has found a good place to live and I'll keep coming back to see if it has grown"
Alex's teacher Glenn Thomas said the pupil was "chuffed" with the community's response after the school posted photos on social media with people describing the "super leaving gift" as a "wonderful thing to do".
