Parents, children and young people have been warned about touching hot metal at Llanidloes’ skate and play parks during the school summer holidays.

It follows an incident in town last month that involved a little girl who touched a hot part of the skate ramp which left sore blisters over her hand.

Wales is expected to feel very warm, and hot in any sunshine this weekend with temperatures reaching into the high 20s.

Llanidloes Town Council said signs warning people not to touch anything which is metal have been placed in all their playgrounds.

Councillors heard that a letter from a member of the public had been sent to them about the incident.

Deputy Mayor Jamie Jones said at a recent council meeting: “It’s a nice letter, it’s not confrontational or trying to cast blame on anyone.

“It’s informative in the sense that positive action from the council will help avoid further incidents in the future.”

Powys County Councillor for Llanidloes Gareth Morgan suggested that the council contact Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa) to check whether any further action needs to be taken.

The skatepark was built and equipped in 2005 and is well-used by local skaters and BMX bikers.
