A new "dynamic and innovative" head-teacher is being sought for Llanfair Caereinion's new all-through school.

In May, Powys County Council agreed to push ahead with the plans to merge Llanfair Caereinion Primary School and Caereinion High School to form an all through school for ages 4-18.

Now the authority is seeking a head-teacher to drive the school forward when it opens in September 2022.

The advertisement for the position describes the role as a unique opportunity for a "high-calibre individual with a vision and commitment" to drive forward the establishment of the new Dual Stream All-age School from September 2022 onwards.

"We are at a pivotal stage in further developing and improving Welsh-medium provision and this role will be critical to help shape future bilingual education in the area," it said.

"As such, you will need to be fluent in Welsh and proactive in moving the school along the language continuum. Feeder schools and other partners will be essential in helping to develop this vision.

"You will be a dynamic and innovative individual with a proven track record of operating at a senior management level, with well-developed strategic and operational leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills.

"You will be committed to delivering high quality learning to all pupils and to working in partnership with pupils, staff, parents, governors and the community to provide an environment in which staff and pupils are supported in achieving their full potential."

At the meeting of Powys County Council's cabinet in May, Adult social care and Welsh language portfolio holder, Cllr Myfanwy Alexander, herself a former Caereinion High School head girl described the new school as the "best solution" for Llanfair Caereinion.

"It’s a very firm jumping off point for the journey on which the school is going," she said.

"This is not the end of the development in Caereinion catchment area but the beginning."

The council will close the two existing schools on August 31, 2022 and then re-open them as an all through school working across both sites on September 1, 2022.
