A positive Covid-19 case has been identified at a mid Wales secondary school.

Parents and carers were told earlier this week by Llanidloes High School that all close contacts have been identified and the school would remain open.

In a letter posted on social media, headteacher Daniel Owen said the school was working closely with Public Health Wales, Powys County Council and NHS Wales.

He said: “NHS Wales Test, Trace and Protect has been informed of a confirmed case of Covid-19 in Llanidloes High School.

“Llanidloes High School remains open. It is working closely with Public Health Wales, the Local Authority and NHS Wales Test, Trace and Protect to ensure that all appropriate measures are in place to protect students, staff and the wider community. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and to provide advice on how to support your child.

"All close contacts of the case have been identified and have received appropriate advice to self-isolate. Your child has not been identified as a close contact and therefore does not need to self-isolate and does not require testing for Covid-19. They can continue to attend Llanidloes High School as usual.”

Schools in Guilsfield and Sennybridge in south Powys have closed or partially closed due to coronavirus during the past week, according to Powys County Council.
