Mr Terry Wain, their former headteacher said: "Congratulations to four young footballers at Newtown Football Club who have one thing in common - they all first displayed their skills at Abermule Primary School.

"Jamie Breese, George Hughes, Tom Davies, and Dylan Downs all excelled in sport and PE lessons from their early years in the school and showed their footballing talent every day on the "all weather" at break times.

"Well done to the lads and thanks to their parents and Montgomery Juniors FC for all the support and encouragement they have received. We wish them further sporting success."

Jayne Harrison, the school’s current headteacher, agreed and explained the children in Abermule School continue to have opportunities to participate in all kinds of sport and outdoor activities.

Mrs Harrison said: "We understand it not only benefits physical health but children’s wellbeing too. We are very lucky to have a wonderful field and all weather play areas where children can develop their skills. It’s amazing to have such great role models in these four players.

Newtown chairman Howard Ellis said he has been pleased with four local players emergence as first team players for mid Wales' top club.

He said: "For a small village like Abermule to have these players playing in the JD Cymru Premier league is a fantastic achievement not only to their past school but for the surrounding villages.

"The four players are all looking to take a step further when they await the Europa Conference league games when hopefully they will all be part of the squad.

"I am sure like myself and the village people we wish them well in their European adventure and to the younger players every success in their football development."
