TESCO customers visiting the Llandrindod Wells superstore will be able to pick up some health advice from the British Heart Foundation (BHF) along with their groceries this week.

It marks the first ‘health hub’ event as part of the Live Well Powys initiative, which is being launched by the store’s community champion and renowned local fundraiser, Jayne Griffiths.

As part of Jayne’s plan to link local people with charities which can offer support with their wellbeing, Jayne and the BHF are in store today and tomorrow (June 10-11).

Jayne Lewis, fundraising manager for BHF Cymru, said: “We know that heart and circulatory diseases kill one in four people in Wales which is devastating for those they leave behind.

“Right now, 17,000 people in Powys are living with heart and circulatory disease and are being hit hardest by the pandemic. Covid-19 has had a huge impact on our research funding so it’s crucial we do everything possible to maintain our progress for those people who need us.”

Community champion Jayne Griffiths added: “Over the course of the pandemic, a lot of people in Llandrindod Wells and more widely across Powys have become increasingly isolated, and with NHS resources focused on tackling Covid-19, they may have felt less able to access the level of support with their health that they may previously have done.

“This is just the first event of many I’ll be holding in store. Other charities will also be involved in the coming weeks and months, and if as a result of popping down to Tesco to see us just one person gets the help they need, it will all have been worthwhile.”
