More than 1,000 ‘Fish and Chip’ jumpers have been donated following an appeal that was launched at the beginning of lockdown.

Paula Roberts of Newtown Knit and Natter group, said it was a “fantastic achievement by all the ladies”.

Fish and Chip jumpers are knitted by people before being sent to Africa where babies are often sent home wrapped in newspaper.

Paula added: “We had a fantastic response with ladies knitting for us all over the UK and kindly sending their jumpers to us.

"The jumpers are in constant demand and are being sent out along with medical supplies to war torn areas and areas of great hardship all over the world.

“I am extremely proud of what the ladies have achieved and would like to say a massive thank you on behalf of all the families that are going to benefit from their kindness.”
