A MOTHER’S behaviour at a Powys primary school was described as “vile” as she was prevented from entering due to her erratic conduct.

Cheryl Marie Wiggins was barred from entering Llanelwedd Church in Wales Primary School on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 12, and the headteacher had to make multiple calls to the police. Officers were subjected to a “tirade of abuse” and called “scum” by the 47-year-old, Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court heard this week. Wiggins pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour as well as resisting arrest when appearing on Wednesday, May 26.

Prosecutor Stephen Davies said the incident unfolded after the school day, just after 4pm.

“Detective Constable Sarah Ross attended Llanelwedd Primary School at around 4pm for an unrelated matter,” said Mr Davies.

“She was made aware by the headteacher of the defendant, who was shouting aggressively and banging on the school doors.

“DC Ross went inside and locked the doors. The defendant then tried to gain access at various other points of the school.

“Headteacher Adam Shearman called additional police and at around 4.50pm PC Wayne Ballard arrived, arriving to the defendant shouting at the top of her voice. He was subjected to a tirade of abuse and was called scum.

“PC Ballard was assisted by DC Ross in arresting the defendant and he described her behaviour as vile. Adam Shearman said he was horrified and shocked by her behaviour and her attitude towards the police.”

Acting for Wiggins, of Park Terrace, Llandrindod Wells, Gareth Walters said there was a “lot of background” to the story and why his client had acted so aggressively outside the school, based just outside Builth Wells.

“She is extremely remorseful and wishes to apologise to the officers,” said Mr Walters.

“She was confused about what was going on. She wishes to put this incident behind her and hopefully she can now draw a line under it and move on.”

Wiggins was fined £80 for resisting arrest and £40 for her threatening behaviour, with £85 costs and a £34 surcharge.
