The brand new McDonald's restaurant has officially opened in Welshpool.

Kathleen Comaskey and her step-grandchildren, Jacob, Rian and Liv from Criggion were the first customers when doors opened at 11am on Wednesday, May 26.

Their meals were served by Montgomeryshire MP Craig Williams who helped cut the ribbon with franchisee Bob Beckett outside the new 95-seater two-storey building at the Buttington Cross Enterprise Park.

It is part of a "significant investment" by Mr Beckett, whose restaurant will create 75 new jobs for the local community.

He said: “We’re so pleased to be opening our doors today and welcoming customers into the new restaurant. A lot of hard work has gone into turning this project into a reality over the last few months and we want to thank everyone involved for their efforts.

"We’re looking forward to serving the Welshpool community and seeing our customers enjoy our services on offer.”

Craig Williams MP added: “I was delighted to meet Bob and his team to officially open the new McDonald’s restaurant in Welshpool. It was especially good to hear about the new jobs this restaurant has created, supporting our local economy here in Montgomeryshire.”

The new restaurant, which includes a Drive-Thru facility and 26 car park spaces, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It has self-service kiosks, and digital menu boards are displayed at the Drive-Thru.

Customers at the new Welshpool restaurant will also be able to use the My McDonald’s App to order and pay for their food ahead of time.

During the Covid-19 crisis, a number of safety measures have been put in place at McDonald’s restaurants to help keep crew safe, including Perspex screens, temperature checks at the start of each shift, maintaining a two-metre distance from others as much as possible, face coverings, regular hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser.
