A series of planned road closures on the Newtown bypass will take place over the next seven days.

Kerry Road roundabout to Pool Road roundabout will be the first part to shut for maintenance works. It is due to be closed for two days from today (Wednesday, May 19).

Then from Friday, May 21, the section between Upper Dolfor Road roundabout and Llanidloes Road roundabout will also close for two days.

The third and final two-day road closure will take place between the Upper Dolfor Road roundabout and Kerry Road roundabout from Monday, May 24.

Warning signs have been put in place along the bypass ahead of the work which is expected to be completed by Wednesday, May 26.

A Welsh Government spokesperson said: "Road closures along the Newtown Bypass will be in place from May 19 until May 26 to allow for the completion of planned maintenance works.

"We appreciate the patience of local residents and people travelling through the area whilst work is underway.”

This section of the bypass will be closed on Wednesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 20. A two-way traffic lights system will be in place on the Pool Road roundabout.

The official diversion route will take drivers from the Kerry Road roundabout along Kerry Road to Pool Road (McDonalds traffic lights) then along Pool Road past Morrisons to the Pool Road Roundabout.

It is expected to reopen by Friday, May 21.

On Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22, drivers will be diverted from the Upper Dolfor Road roundabout to Lower Dolfor roundabout along Heol Ashley to the Theatre Hafren roundabout then along Llanidloes Road towards the Llanidloes roundabout where there will be two-way lights.

The Welsh Government said it expects that this section will be open from Monday, May 24.

This section of the bypass will be closed on Monday, May 24, and Tuesday, May 25.

The official diversion will take drivers from the Upper Dolfor Roundabout to the Lower Dolfor Roundabout then along Dolfor Road to the Lidl traffic lights on New Road. Motorists will then need to drive along New Road to the McDonalds traffic lights and then turn right to Kerry Road and along the road to join Kerry Road Roundabout.

The Welsh Government said that all sections of the Newtown Bypass will be open by Wednesday, May 26, however traffic lights may be required to complete any unfinished areas.
