The sun has risen over the sixth Senedd.

One week since the election results were announced, over the last few days, Senedd Members have returned to Cardiff Bay to take up their positions in representing the people of Wales.

I am delighted to have been re-elected to represent the people of Powys and Mid and West Wales alongside Joyce Watson as your Welsh Labour Members of the Senedd.

It was a privilege to campaign with local candidates Kait Duerden and Gethin Jones who campaigned tirelessly in their communities to champion Welsh Labour’s radical and ambitious manifesto for rural Wales.

I will work hard to deliver on our promises to rural communities whether that is protecting the environment, building new homes or rebuilding a green economy with a strong offer for our young people.

The last year has been tough for all of us.

We’ve been kept apart from loved ones, experienced changes at work and in our day-to-day lives but it has also give us time to reflect on what really matters.

Across Wales, voters recognised and valued the leadership qualities they saw in Mark Drakeford.

I am proud to have worked alongside him to Keep Wales Safe during the past year of the pandemic and national lockdowns.

Mark has diligently and carefully guided our nation through the pandemic and we can now all look forward to significantly better days ahead.

The 2021 Senedd election was about trust.

Trust in handling the pandemic, trust in delivering on the promises made in government and trust that we will continue to do all we can to move Wales forward in the years ahead.

Over the next term, I’ll continue to support local constituents with their problems, champion the best that Powys has to offer.

I will continue to work hard for our communities so that everyone feels the benefit of a Welsh Labour government which will continue to work for everyone in Wales.
