PURCHASING pigs and a journey into pig rearing will be on the menu as Menter Moch Cymru jump on the online platform for this year’s virtual Royal Welsh Smallholding and Countryside Festival.

Rain or shine the public will be able to tune in for this year’s remote festival from the comfort of their own home with Menter Moch Cymru working in collaboration with Farming Connect.

The adapted festival will take place this weekend, with the first webinar being held on Saturday, May 15 at 2pm.

It will offer an insight into pig breeders Cennydd and Naiomi’s journey who farm in Ceredigion

The pair took part in the Menter Moch Cymru and YFC finishing competition in 2017, and currently run a small breeding herd of Welsh pigs.

In the second webinar held on Sunday, May 16 at 2pm, viewers can join renowned pig vet and specialist, Bob Stevenson.

He will be looking at the topic of what factors to look out for when purchasing pigs, what to avoid and isolation and integration protocols.

During the webinar, Bob will discuss the medicines pigs should receive before entering the farm, and what appearance signs and symptoms we should look out for when choosing the ideal pigs for the holding.

Melanie Cargill Menter Moch Cymru Project manager said that she was pleased that Menter Moch Cymru were able to reach out and target their audience with online events.

She said: “It’s great that the festival is being held virtually once again this year. We are able to reach out with online events and share information and keep in touch with the farmers.

“We are also very lucky that pig experts and breeders are ready to share their experiences and speciality.”
