HEAVY rain and thundery showers will hit North Wales as a week of stormy weather is expected.

It is bad news for the region this week as despite it being May, the weather is set to deteriorate - a stark difference to this time last year.

Thunder is already being heard in parts of Flintshire and Wrexham with heavy showers, but it will not stop there.

Although no weather warning has yet been put in place, temperatures are set to reach lows of 5C - with highs of 15C.

Here's what the Met Office has predicted for this week:

Today:

Sunny intervals through the morning with scattered showers which will be heavy and thundery at times. These showers becoming more frequent with fewer sunny intervals during the afternoon, winds strengthening. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

Winds will ease as further scattered showers affect Wales through the evening and overnight. These showers will be heavy at times. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Wednesday:

Another day of sunshine and showers, with these showers heavy and potentially thundery at times. Rain, occasionally heavy, affecting some eastern parts during the evening. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Early rain over eastern areas soon clearing to leave isolated showers and sunshine on Thursday. After a clear, dry morning on Friday, scattered showers arriving and persisting into Saturday.
