A POPULAR farm shop has unveiled who it thinks has been the hero of the coronavirus lockdowns.
Oakchurch Farm Shop in Herefordshire asked for nominations for its lockdown hero award, wanting people who had gone beyond the call of duty to help the elderly or vulnerable during the Covid-19 pandemic.
And it was Idris Bowen, nominated by Richard and Mary Davies from Llandrindod Wells, who scooped the £250 prize.
The couple said: “Idris has, for nearly a year, been delivering shopping for our local Spar shop using his own van.
"Delivering to as many as 100 homes per week in the town of Llandrindod Well, local villages and even more outlying areas.
“We are considered vulnerable, so we’ve not gone out at all during lockdown, so food deliveries are essential."
They added: "We are so grateful to Idris who is always reliable, courteous, and cheerful, wears a mask and puts the boxes of shopping wherever we need it. He always asks after out health.
“Never having met Idris before we think so highly of him and that’s why we feel he should be considered as your local lockdown hero.”
