The landscape of Powys has been used in a host of hit movies over the decades.

Some have gone on to become pop culture favourites while others proved to be less successful.

In a sequel to last month's showcase of some of the movies filmed in the region, the County Times shares a few other films shot in Powys and the borderlands over the years.

His Dark Materials

The BBC/HBO adaptation of Philip Pullman's fantasy trilogy was made mainly in Wales, including the Brecon Beacons.

Llangynidr quarry near Crickhowell was also used as a backdrop for the hit series starring James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson.

The town of Trollesund, the main port where Lyra first meets Lee Scoresby and Iorek – the giant, armoured polar bear, was filmed at the Llangynidr quarry in Crickhowell.

The Baker

The Baker is a 2007 British comedy crime thriller film written and directed by Gareth Lewis and starring Damian Lewis, Kate Ashfield and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

An ex-assassin retires to a small Welsh village and opens a bakery but is unable to escape his former associates. It was known in the USA by the alternative title Assassin in Love.

The film premiered at the 2007 Tremblant Film Festival where Lewis was awarded Best Director.

The film was shot in the village of Grosmont in the Wye Valley.

A Discovery of Witches

Another fantasy, A Discovery of Witches, used the drastically beautiful scenery of the Brecon Beacons for its episodes.

A Discovery of Witches is a British fantasy television series based on the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, named after the first book in the trilogy.

The series stars Teresa Palmer as Diana Bishop, a witch and tenured historian at Yale University, studying alchemy and science at the University of Oxford, and Matthew Goode as Matthew Clairmont, a vampire and Professor of Biochemistry.

An unknown virus pandemic kills more than 90 per cent of the world's population.

Those immune must strive to survive and overcome the difficulties of this new world order, hoping that the virus will not mutate.

The series ran from 1975 to 1977 and was partly shot in the Brecon Beacons and starred Lucy Fleming and Ian McCulloch.

In the Yorkshire Dales, a group of scientists receive radio signals from the Andromeda Galaxy.

Once decoded, these give them a computer programme that can design a human clone.

The 2006 film stars Tom Hardy, Charlie Cox and Kelly Reilly and was partly shot in the Brecon Beacons.

Three estranged siblings inherit a camera on the condition that they take the final six photographs together on a trip across Wales.

The film was partly shot in the Brecon Beacons and rated highly among viewers and critics upon its release in 2019.

Alexandra Hewitt, Emelie Gren and director Oli Warrilow star as the siblings.
