A Tregynon man has been fined for possession of cannabis after being stopped by the police.
Liam Paul Bishop, 21, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 20.
The court heard that a police officer found that there was an “overwhelming” smell of cannabis after stopping a vehicle leaving Llanfair Caereinion “at speed” on March 12.
Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, said that Bishop, a passenger in the back of the vehicle, told the police that it was his herbal cannabis and that he intended to use it for personal use.
The amount of drugs found on Bishop was 1.3 grams with a street value of £13.
Paul Inns, defending, said Bishop fully co-operated with the police and made a full admission about the “small amount” of cannabis.
Chair of the magistrates bench Cynthia McVey gave Bishop, of Tair Derwyn, Tregynon, a £199 fine.
