A HOME-BASED care company with a presence in Oswestry has thanked all who helped them bring cheer to veterans and socially-isolated people by donating Easter eggs.

Home Instead Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Oswestry joined forces with its sister company in Telford, Newport and Markey Drayton prior to Easter to launch an appeal for eggs, and were blown away after more than 800 were received.

The number of eggs donated surpassed the original number that Home Instead intended to donate to local veterans, identified with the help of the Shropshire Armed Forces Outreach Group.

That led to the two home care companies also donating eggs to vulnerable and isolated elderly people across Shropshire, including to patients at the Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Telford Hospitals, people living in local housing scheme, alongside teaming with charity, Omega who run a local befriending programme to fight loneliness.

Rachael Griffiths, owner of Home Instead Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Oswestry, said: “The campaign far surpassed our expectations, and we were overwhelmed by the level of support received from communities throughout our county.

"We would like to say a huge thanks to all the individuals and businesses who donated, and let you know that your small acts of kindness really did make a difference to the lives of older and vulnerable people across Shropshire.”

Many who volunteered to deliver the eggs had a wonderful time speaking to local elderly people.

Volunteer Mai has been keeping in touch with widows of veterans during the pandemic and helped Rachael deliver eggs to the widows she has been communicating with.

She added: “We delivered the last of the Easter eggs today, and I have absolutely loved doing it.

"I am very thankful that I had this opportunity, as it is just so heart-warming to see how such a small gesture can really make someone's day.

"Many of the veterans also seemed to appreciate meeting me and matching my face to the calls and letters I have sent."
