Prince Philip played a prominent role as consort to the Queen and in many aspects of Royal life. He will be remembered fondly for his contribution to Royal life, the UK and the Commonwealth.

He will be remembered for his involvement with over 750 organisations, reflecting a wide range of interests, specifically in science and technological research. He will also be remembered for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme which inspired young people to become involved within their communities, experience adventure and develop new skills outside the classroom.

Mayor of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, David Selby, said: “It is with great sorrow that we learn of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

“The Town Council, on behalf of the residents of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, offer our sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family at this sad time.”
