RHAYADER mayor Jane Narborough officially opened the town’s food bank this week.

Based at The Arches, the independent food bank will be serving the Rhayader and surrounding area.

“We would also like to thank local Spar retail assistant Lee Hicks and our own community shop volunteer Linda Knox for taking part in the official opening,” organisers said on the food bank’s Facebook page, which you can visit by searching Rhayader Food Bank - The Arches.

“The establishment of our independent food bank has been made possible through the support of our financial funders (Prince's Countryside Fund and the WCVA's Voluntary Services Recovery Fund).

“But we would also be lost without the valuable and much appreciated support from local individuals, organisations and businesses. We have also received support from Powys County Council to stock up on women's essential items, which we offer through the food bank.

“Our food bank is a member of the Independent Food Aid Network and they have been generous in supporting us to set up a healthy food box scheme which we will be launching within the next few months.

“Non-perishable food donations can currently be made at Spar and Co-op, through local churches or directly at The Arches. We also accept financial donations, you can donate online via our website www.thearchesrhayader.com.”

Anyone in need of a food parcel can call in to The Arches, phone them on 01597 810921 or message them via the Facebook page.
