THE Welsh Black Cattle Society has announced the appointment of Lynfa Jones as the new breed secretary.

Lynfa, who is currently Dyffryn Banw YFC’s secretary, will be working for the society full time from the Builth Wells office on the showground and from home.

A farmer’s daughter, Lynfa graduated from Harper Adams University with a degree in Agri-Food Marketing with Business Studies.

She moves from her role as marketing assistant for a machinery dealer where she gained valuable experience but responded at once to the vacancy with the society as her long-term goal has always been to work within the livestock sector.

Lynfa cannot wait to “get stuck in” to her new role adding that she is “excited by the opportunity to join the Welsh Black Cattle Society and I’m looking forward to using my skills to take the society from strength to strength while still concentrating on the core breed objectives of Wales’ most iconic breed”.

She said: “I look forward to working with the council members but mainly to meet you, the members, face to face when we can, helping me to understand how the society can best serve the membership in the future.”

Lynfa is also Montgomery YFC’s communications officer and by now is an old hand on adapting to the world of COVID restrictions and Zoom meetings.

The society are pleased to say they were able to interview for the breed secretary role online over Zoom and continue to meet online regularly by adapting to the unusual circumstances by using technology.

Meredydd Jones, Council Chairman added “We are very pleased to welcome Lynfa as our new breed secretary and are confident that with the support of the members she will be a great asset to the society.

“We wish you all the very best Lynfa in your new job and hope you will be happy amongst us.

“At the same time, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Evelyn Jones for her work over the last four years and wish her all the best for the future”.

The Welsh Black Cattle Society was formed in 1904 to promote and maintain the purity of the breed which has become an iconic part of Welsh landscapes ever since

The Welsh Black is the native breed of Wales, moulded by the landscape of this breath-taking, windswept country into a modern animal that thrives in the harshest of conditions.
