POWYS celebrated reaching another milestone in its mass vaccination programme with the 100,000th dose delivered today (Saturday).

This includes over 75,100 first doses and over 24,000 second doses.

Over 90 per cent of people in priority groups 1-9 in Powys have received their first dose, and over a quarter (29 per cent) have already received double-dose protection.

Nearly 65 per cent of the adult population in the county have received their first dose.

Last week (week ending 28 March) saw over 11,800 vaccination doses delivered in the county, which is the second busiest week since the programme began.

The busiest single day so far was January 29 when over 3,000 doses were delivered in a day with two days of vaccination delivered in a day due to the forecast of snow.

A breakdown of the figures was published by the Powys Teaching Health Board (PTGB) this afternoon, thanking all who had helped in the mass vaccination programme so far.

Welsh Government has endorsed interim guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation recommending the priorities for vaccinating the rest of the population.

Vaccination will begin from the end of April and continue to the end of July, for people aged 40-49, followed by people aged 30-39 and then people aged 18-29.

  • 99 per cent of care home residents have taken up first dose vaccination, and over half have already received their second dose.
  • Over 98 per cent of people aged over 80 have taken up first dose vaccination, and 75 per cent have already received their second dose.
  • Over 98 per cent of people aged 75-79 have taken up first dose vaccination and over 97 per cent of people aged 70-74 have taken up first dose vaccination.
  • Over 95 per cent of clinically extremely vulnerable adults have taken up first dose vaccination.
  • Over 95 per cent of people aged 65-69 have taken up first dose vaccination.
  • Over 13,000 people with underlying health conditions have already received their first dose vaccination.
