A woman who lost her mother to cancer when she was a teenager has completed a lockdown fundraising challenge by running the equivalent of two marathons to help raise awareness and funds for research.

Eurgain Jones, 23, ran 56 miles around Llangurig in February to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Despite admitting that she hates running, the mum-of-one was determined to raise money by challenge herself for a cause that means a lot to her and her family.

“I lost my mum to cancer when I was 15 so this charity is so close to my heart,” said Eurgain. “I usually take part in Race for Life every year but obviously since Covid they haven’t been able to do any events. So I thought to challenge myself and raise money.”

“I started off doing two miles a day then gradually up to four miles. Six miles in a day was the most I did.”

Eurgain, a hairdresser who grew up in Llangadfan and works as a hairdresser at Sam’s Salon in Pant-y-dwr near Rhayader, has counted up the donations and has raised £350.26 for Cancer Research UK.

She said: “I’d like to thank everyone that donated to my fundraising and to Mary from Llangurig Post Office for offering to collect donations as well. I’m ever so grateful. This helped me push myself even more!”
