Councillors have given their support to plans to build a bike ‘pump track’ in Llanidloes.

At a recent full council meeting, councillors discussed a letter sent by John Selly regarding a new facility for the town.

A pump track is a looped sequence of swooped banked turns for bike riders.

Councillor Margot Jones described the idea as “fantastic”, while cllr John Hughes said that he was “totally supporting the idea”,

Cllr Jamie Jones added that he was a “massive fan” of the proposal.

“Anything we can do to get kids outside in terms of recreation facilities is an absolute win as far as I am concerned,” he said.

The largest pump track of its kind in the UK is located in Rhayader. It opened in September 2019.

Mayor Janet Crisp told councillors: “Newtown and Machynlleth seem to have all these things and we are a little far behind. Another outlet has got to be beneficial for the town and the children.”
