Young people are being given the opportunity to sign up as youth representatives on Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council.

Councillors are looking for two people aged 15 to 25 who can feed ideas, participate in council meetings and help young people be more involved in decision-making.

Cllr Richard Williams said the Town Council wants to hear more from young people about the things that they want and need in Newtown.

He said: “The Town Council is eager to work with young people and it is vital that their views are heard when decisions are being made. We are looking forward to working with our Youth Reps to help develop and grow youth engagement in the town.”

Youth Reps will also have an opportunity to learn how the council works and gain skills and experience for their CVs. They will also increase their understanding of local and national matters and engage with a wide range of people and organisations. Youth Reps are entitled to free training, support and allowances.

Youth Reps do not vote on decisions but they can raise topics, inform councillors and take part in discussions.

Applications are open until Friday, May 7. The two youth representatives will then be selected at a council meeting on Monday, May 24.
