You always know when you’re in for a good lecture or talk. The speaker will define precisely what they mean by, and what we should understand as, key words. Take for example the word “consultation”.

Of the 667 consultations launched by the Welsh Government (WAG), including “Subordinate legislation consolidation and review”, “Global Centre of Rail Excellence planning pre-application” & “Active travel guidance” we find, issued with some haste and a short consultation period last week, the “A470: Llanidloes Safety Scheme.” To paraphrase Yes Minister – Sir Humphrey – “Always dispose of the difficult bit in the title.

This scheme has nine aims. Improve safety on the network for all users, reduce driver stress/frustration and three about “saving the planet”.

How creating a 250m three lane road to allow for overtaking when exiting, northbound, the Llanidloes A470 roundabout will achieve this is not quite clear.

What we do know is the residents of Llanidloes were way, way down in the consultation hierarchy.
