AN ARGUMENT between two men in Welshpool led to one pouring lubricant over the others' car .

man has admitted causing criminal damage after spraying a 'lubricant' on another man's car.

Pawel Filipiak, 37, of Coed Y Bryn, Borfa Green, Welshpool entered a guilty plea to the offence when he appeared at the town's magistrates court.

Sara Worland, prosecuting, said that the incident happened on October 16 at Alfred Jones Court in Welshpool.

Filipiak was seen spraying a substance on a vehicle which belonged to the victim, then fled the scene when police attended.

Ms Worland said that the owner of the car reported damage through corrosion to the bonnet panel, off-side and near-side panels, and that repairs cost more than £4,000.

She added that Filipiak admitted in a police interview he had sprayed the substance, but denied it was capable of causing the damage claimed by the victim, with whom he had an argument - leading to the incident.

Robert Hanratty, defending, said there was nothing to the claims of corrosion to the vehicle and queried whether compensation should be considered.

He said: "This was nothing more than passing inconvenience, the substance was washed off the car in less than 24 hours.

"There is no copy of any invoice or reference to compensation in the advanced disclosure."

Chair of the magistrates Stephen Pembroke declined to made any compensation order, stating it was felt it would only "exacerbate" the situation.

He gave Filipiak a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £22 victim surcharge.
