A Builders’ Merchant Supply business with a site in Welshpool has announced its new name having been bought by another company.

SCA Wood UK will now be known as BSW Timber Solutions Ltd following the takeover by BSW Group in December.

The company said: “BSW Timber Solutions Ltd will continue to provide its customer base with quality products and service levels, delivering a combined package of timber solutions and security of supply for the market.”

BSW Group is the largest integrated forestry business in the UK and has six main operating divisions – tree nurseries, tree harvesting, forestry management, sawmilling, timber processing and biomass energy.

The timber business is the largest sawmilling business in the UK, with a turnover of £370 million and capacity to produce over 1.2 million cubic metres of sawn timber per year. The sawmilling business operates at seven sites across the UK.

BSW Timber Solutions Ltd is one of the largest processors and distributers of timber products in the UK with annual sales in excess of £145 million.

Its headquarters and distribution centre is in Stoke on Trent, and is the division in which the Welshpool site lies, along with others in Melton and Cumbernauld.

The company said the takeover was a reason for optimistic.

A spokesman said: “Wood is in huge demand. With people spending more time at home, many are carrying out home improvements. It is great for us as our products are in demand.

“We are recruiting in Welshpool and across Powys for staff in warehouse and logistics admin, production admin, FLT driver positions and operative positions.”
