A WOMAN has been banned from driving for 14 months after being found more than five times the legal drug drive limit.

Alishia Mary Ann Howells had glazed eyes when stopped in a Honda Civic near her home in Crossgates, near Llandrindod Wells, late at night on September 20 last year.

The 20-year-old provided a positive roadside test and was arrested, with further samples showing she had 11 micrograms of cannabis in her blood, exceeding the specified limit of 2mcgs.

She pleaded guilty to drug driving at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, February 24.

Prosecutor Stephen Davies said the defendant, of Claymore, Rock Road, was stopped on the A483 at Crossgates, near her home.

“The defendant had glazed eyes and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled drug,” he said. “A saliva screening test was positive. At the police station Ms Howells gave further samples, including one containing 11 micrograms of cannabis.”

Acting for Howells, Owain Jones said: “This is a young lady with no previous convictions and who co-operated with the police. She is sorry, this has tarnished her reputation.”

In addition to the ban, magistrates fined Howells £120 fine and ordered her to pay a £34 surcharge and £85 costs.
