A Montgomeryshire politician has backed calls for a roadmap out of lockdown in Wales.

Russell George, the Conservative MS and Shadow Minister for Economy, Transport and Mid Wales, says he supports calls from the Federation of Small Businesses for clarity over when lockdown will be lifted in Wales.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday published details of how England will emerge from lockdown, with a vision of society returning to relative normality by the summer.

And now Mr George has called for a similar vision from the Welsh Government.

“We need to rebuild our disrupted economy, safeguard jobs, and give vision and hope to all in Wales – not least of whom are small businesses owners, the backbone of the Welsh economy," he said.

“Labour might talk about ‘not wanting to raise hopes too early’, but at this rate they’ll be offering a response too late.

“Labour ministers must act immediately to save Welsh jobs, extend the business rates holiday, and provide a clear roadmap to recovery for Wales.”

The next review of lockdown measures in Wales is due on March 12. The last announcement on Friday saw lockdown continued for three weeks – with some tweaks – to allow pupils to return to schools safely.
