A MAN has admitted driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs.
Liam Wainwright, 39, of High Street, Llanfyllin, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court.
Laura Knightly, prosecuting, said that in August, police in Newtown witnessed Wainwright pushing a moped along on the pavement after he had fallen off it.
When officers approached him he made off, but was later detained and provided a drug swipe test which proved positive for cannabis. The reading was 3.4 when the legal limit is two.
Paul Inns, defending, said: “In effect, he has taken the moped out on a test drive.
“He hadn’t taken drugs on this day, he had taken them in the previous few days and he felt fine at the time.”
A report provided by the probation service said Wainwright was working with the Kaleidoscope charity to address his issues with drugs.
Chair of the magistrates bench Stephen Pembroke gave Wainwright a 12 month community order and a four week curfew, from 8pm to 6am.
He will pay court costs of £85 and a £95 victim surcharge, and is banned from the road for three years.
