Feeding time in Rhayader – photographer's stunning images of buzzards and red kites

Sean Weekly headed out to his low level hide situated in the picturesque foot hill at Gigrin Farm in Rhayader where he snapped an awe inspiring series of bird photographs.

Sean said; "The winter can be challenging, but when the sun shines or the snow falls there is no better season for wildlife photography and there is every reason to wrap up warm and get out there to make the most of it.

"Fortunately, when it comes to bird photography, it doesn’t really matter what the conditions are, because at this time of year birds are probably at their most obliging.

"This is because their main driving force is simply finding enough food to help them survive another day or so."

Sean has spent two years creating his low level hide which will be the base for workshops and hide sessions in the future.

Sean added: The cold front bought along a lot more birds than there normally would be during the daily feeding sessions.

"Due to the cold weather the buzzards and kites struggle to find food on the cold frosty floor so they rely heavily on the daily supplement of food that they get at the farm.

"This made for some exceptionally rare and close encounters with the birds on the ground in the snow, some just 6ft away from where I was sitting in the hide.

The low level hide will be available to book for both photographers and nature lovers once lockdown has ended.
