Problems with a muddy mound in a new play park in Newtown could soon be resolved.

At a recent meeting, Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn town councillors discussed three options for the newly-created mound at the Severn Play Park.

Despite having received no complaints or comments from the public, councillors felt that something needed to be done.

Councillors on the services committee voted unanimously to recommend rubber matting to cover the whole of the mound, which would cost up to £1,750.

The mat, which is made from recycled rubber, disappears from view once the grass has grown through.

Other options that were discussed at the meeting included leaving the mound as it is, or installing artifical grass which could cost up to £12,000.
