A primary school in Welshpool that did not have a working telephone line for more than a week has reopened.

Pupils and staff returned to Welshpool CiW Primary School today (Friday) after it was closed for a day while the issue was being fixed.

The school said it now has a temporary telephone line, meaning that they are able to be contacted by coronavirus test and trace teams (TTP) and Powys Council's Children's Services.

A statement on the Welshpool CiW Primary School Facebook page said: "After nine days of pursuing the problem with the telephone line and not being able to be contacted by TTP or Children's Services etc as there is very little mobile signal on site, the school has been provided with a temporary telephone line in order that we can reopen safely tomorrow Friday 5th February.

"We look forward to seeing those of you who have registered for face-to-face teaching.

"Thank you to all our families for your support, patience and understanding while we have been trying to sort out the problem for the safety of all concerned during this pandemic."
