A GROUP of travellers have been evicted from an industrial estate in Newtown, with two members arrested on suspicion of theft by police officers.

Private enforcement officers served an eviction notice on the group on Tuesday (February 2) after it is believed a dozen or so caravans appeared in the car park of the Nidec Industrial Automation site on the Mochdre Industrial Estate on Monday evening. They were evicted with enforcement officers aided by a police presence.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police said: “There were travellers situated at the Nidec site on the Mochdre Industrial Estate.

“They were evicted yesterday (Tuesday) by private enforcement officers with a police presence.

“Two people from the group were arrested on suspicion of a theft in the area and have been subsequently bailed out of Powys.”
