A brand new 3G pitch will be installed at Llanidloes Sports Centre next week.
Powys County Council and Freedom Leisure have announced that work to replace the outdated sports pitch will be completed by July.
Cllr Rachel Powell, Cabinet Member for Young People, Culture and Leisure, said it was "great news for the sporting community" in Llanidloes.
Powys County Council added that the 3G pitch project has been made possible with support from Freedom Leisure and Njord Wind Developments, the developers of the Bryn Blaen Wind Farm.
Gwyn Owen, area manager at Freedom Leisure Powys said: “The 3G pitch will be key in our support for Llanidloes residents to remain as active and healthy as possible.
"The new facility will be a fantastic incentive to encourage outdoor activities for all as we emerge from the impact of Covid-19.”

Steven Radford from Njord Wind Developments said: “We are delighted to be supporting the installation of the new 3G pitch in Llanidloes. As a responsible developer, we have been clear from the outset that we wanted our scheme to deliver real, tangible benefit to the local community. Our investment in this new state-of-the-art facility delivers on this commitment.”
Margot Jones, Chair of Governors at Llanidloes Schools Federation, said: “We are thankful for the support of Powys County Council, Freedom Leisure, Njord Wind Developments and the Llanidloes and District Sports Partnership for the 3G pitch development. There is a great sense of excitement in our schools. The pitch will be invaluable in helping us promote learners’ physical wellbeing, sporting prowess and love of the great outdoors.”
Welshpool-based SWG Construction have been appointed the contractor to install the pitch and floodlights.
Powys County Council said the work will be subject to any further changes to Covid-19 and Brexit restrictions or regulations and completion dates could be affected as a result.
